Disposition Authorities for Individual Classifications for Headquarters Case Files. Part B: Classification 206. Fraud Against the Government - Dept of Defense.

The Bureau established this classification in 1978 for fraud cases involving the Department of Defense (DOD). Otherwise, this resembles other Fraud Against the Government classifications. It contains matters involving officials or losses in excess of $25,000. Fraud Against the Government also involves false claims, false statements, and misrepresentations not involving pecuniary loss. Such matters can develop into criminal offenses or civil suits. FBI Field Offices initially refer complaints to the U.S. Attorney. If the case warrants investigation, the Field Office recontacts the U.S. Attorney at the close of the investigation for prospective opinion. field Offices submit prosecutive reports and prepare a final Letterhead Memorandum (LHM) on the outcome of the case. Headquarters disseminates copies of the report to the Criminal Division, Department of Justice.
